Imphal, Manipur, May 9 (HBTV): A Central Reserve Police Force (CPRF) policeman stationed at the Tactical Training Hub in Chil Chil of Kangpokpi district was reportedly waylaid and abducted by unidentified individuals on Wednesday. He was brutally assaulted by the abductors, reports stated.

There are no details about the abductors except that they are said to be from a ‘radical armed group.’

The Incident reportedly happened on National Highway 2, when the CRPF man was en route to his village, Keithelmanbi Military Colony in Champhai Subdivision, at around 10:30 a.m. on his scooter. The victim has been identified as one Lensat Sitlhou of Keithelmanbi Military Colony.

Sitlhou was allegedly waylaid along the National Highway 2 area of Shantipur, a Nepali-dominated area. In a swift response to the abduction, Imphal West Police and other security units such as the Assam Rifles and the CRPF launched a coordinated rescue operation. The efforts culminated in the successful rescue of the abducted CRPF man at around 3:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the situation in the area has become tense as hundreds of Kuki women gathered at Gamgiphai following the incident, intensifying checking and frisking of vehicles along the highway.
